Mosaic Knit Samples: Part 1

3 Mosaic Knit Samples

I have decided to make a scarf this time around. But deciding on the pattern is tough. There are so many beautiful mosaic knit patterns out here. But I'm starting with the ones from the book, The New Knitting Stitch Dictionary by Lydia Klös.

Here are some of the samples I have created thus far. One of them will be chosen for an upcoming scarf project.

Mosaic Knit Sample #1

So far, this is my least favorite. But it looks amazing in the book.

Mosaic Knit Sample 1
Two-Color Diamond Pattern

I feel that this first sample has too few repeats to truly judge what it might look like as a scarf. Also, this particular pattern may benefit from a finer yarn weight.

Mosaic Knit Sample #2

The second sample seems like a good fit for any yarn weight but would benefit from larger knitting needles, to insure a better fabric drape.

Mosaic Knit Sample 1
Small Basketweave Ribbing

However, this sample is very small and the yarns used are 3 weight, so I may need to experiment with both lighter and heavier-weighted yarns using this pattern to be certain of what each yarn weight or fibers require in terms of needle size.

Mosaic Knit Sample #3

This third sample is my favorite, so far, and would make a fabulous scarf or shawl.

Mosaic Knit Sample 1
Large Honeycomb Pattern

I have 2 yarns in mind that would look even better together than the light gray and dark fuchsia I used for all these samples.

I'm definitely leaning towards this honeycomb pattern for the scarf I want to knit, but I'm not sure if I would use it for a hat.

Mosaic Knit Sample #4

The fourth pattern was created by removing 2 horizontal stitches from the large honeycomb pattern to make it more compact.

Mosaic Knit Sample 1
Abbreviated Honeycomb Pattern

I could see myself using it to create a mosaic knit beanie. I do not think either honeycomb patterns would work for a beret, not unless I broke the pattern up at certain points with solid blocks of garter or stocking stitch.

In any case, I will have chosen the next mosaic knit pattern for the first scarf I've knitted in many years this week. Stay tuned!
