Mosaic Knit Samples, Pt 2
It has been a long while since I last posted. As you may have noticed, I updated this entire blog from WordPress to a static HTML site. And when I finished I started on my second website. However, I have been working on fiber art projects and planning designs in my downtime; I simply didn't have the time nor the energy to post about it.
The above stitch pattern is my best first example of what I've been working on. It's my own unique stitch pattern. Obviously, it is meant to look like plaid fabric, which is what I was inspired by.
I used 2 yarns – one variegated and the other solid. I have considered creating a version that used multiple solid yarns (4 or more), for stash busting as well as creative purposes, but I’m not sure if I could still rightly refer to such a design as a true mosaic knit. Yarn bobbins would likely be a must; so, maybe a mosaic and intarsia combo?
In any case, above is the graph I created and followed for the first swatch. And below is the graph I created to make the pattern slightly more plaid-like. Basically, I just varied the number of vertical stitches to create greater interest.
Below is the sample made from the second graph.
I really like the look of both stitch patterns, but I believe the second would be better for a hat. Easier to decrease and increase, that is. But time and practice will tell.
I made a full length scarf using the first graph. it is 80 inches long and 11 inches wide. I will share the photos with you in my next post.
