The Good, the Bad, and the Unfinished: Winter 2020
If you’ve been following me on Twitter, you already know that I have a few 2020 projects that have I finished well, mediocre, or not at all.
This one fits into the category of not at all, also known as a UFO (unfinished object)
Obviously, I started this project back in January and it's now the end of February. Why haven't I finished this item? I've had many excuses, but number one is an increasing loss of interest after purchasing new yarns.
But I am determined to finish this shawl by the end of March.
Thus far, this color-work scarf is one of the most interesting pieces that I've finished this season.
This scarf took a long time to finish because of the amount of intricate single crochet stitches required, but when I look at it or wear it I feel it was worth it in the end.
The hat I made to go with the scarf did not turn out nearly as stunning, despite the use of the same colors; which just goes to show that execution is everything.
I'm considering purchasing more of that James C Brett Marble yarn when it goes on sale again, but who knows when that will be. If I can get it at a reasonable price, I am willing to do the same kind of color-work on the hat that I did on the scarf.
I would like the matching hat to look somewhat like the color-work beret I completed earlier this month (seen below). This hat may be the very best finished project I've created this season. But, like the scarf, it took a lot of time and effort. Not as much as the scarf, but only because it is much smaller.
This hat and scarf set I created for my mother was also well finished and well received by my Mom and several Twitter followers. I love how drapey the Tunisian crochet scarf turned out. I intend to make more such scarves.
This would-be beret started off great, but I decided I wanted to do something else with the yarn and my time.
The most recent finished work is the 8-Cable Knit Beret. I love it! It looks great, but it’s not as unusual/unique as my color-work scarf and beret (above).
In the meantime, I am teaching myself brioche knitting and working out the details of my 8-Cable Knit Beret pattern, to account for multiple adult head sizes. But you'll learn more about all of that in my future blog posts.
What have you been working on this season? Are you a knitter, a crocheter, or both? Let me know.
