What’s on My Needles This Week - 02/10/2025

I’ve begun my first multi-geometric shape scarf. I’ve sketched out the design and chosen a self-striping yarn. It’s not a new yarn. I purchased it more than 2 years ago. It’s Ice Yarns Gelato – the colorway doesn’t have a name and is described as “Pink Shades, Purple Shades, Light Grey”. It’s still being manufactured and sold by Yarn Paradise/Ice Yarns, as of today’s date.

The stitch pattern is called slip-stitch ribbing. And I love that the back of the pattern resembles seed stitch ribbing. The selvedge is a 2 stitch repeat – slip 1, with yarn in front, and knit 1. I like the simple look of this selvedge pattern. It goes well with the slip stitch ribbing.

I plan to make use of it again in the near future. I intend to make more geometric shaped scarves this year. I am not sure what shapes they will be for certain, but I do have some shapes in mind.

The needles I’m using are small and the yarn is a light weight – they listed it as 2 weight but it looks like a fingering weight to me, just heavier than a typical fingering because the fiber is 100% microfiber acrylic yarn.

In any case, I want the scarf to be about 80 inches long. But if it looks better shorter, I’ll go with it. 🤞
