What's On My Needles This Week - 6/5/2024

What's on my needles - mosaic scarf

At present, my honeycomb mosaic knit scarf is approximately 61 inches in length and 11 inches in width. I am not sure that it is long enough to be versatile. It is certainly wide enough to be worn as a shawl, but I feel like it would benefit from greater length.

I'm actually considering continuing the pattern until I near the end of the soft purple yarn, save enough length to cast-off with that color in I-cord.

Yarn being used in design

Based in what is left of the soft purple, I could add another 8 inches easily. Meanwhile, I've barely made a dent in the second ball of amethyst yarn.

Knitting the honeycomb mosaic stitch pattern, I use half as much of the amethyst yarn (the color that outlines the honeycombs); this means I could go on for more than 70 inches, with only one ball of the soft purple yarn.

I believe I should make the scarf at least 70 inches, to be sure it's long enough to wrap around two or more times and hang down to my waist, front and back.

Also, the yarns I am knitting with are both 100% acrylic, so the scarf will not be as warm as a wool or wool blend version. But on the upside, I will be able to launder my scarf in the washer without fear of damage, felting, or severe pilling.

All in all, I am very pleased with how this scarf (and/or shawl?) is turning out and I've enjoyed knitting it as well. I'm even considering creating a matching hat with the colors reversed.

This is what the back (aka "the wrong side") looks like. I actually like the way it looks - stripes, but it's not nearly as nice as the honeycomb pattern. What do you think?

Hopefully, by this time next week I will be able to share my competed scarf/shawl with all of you. So, stay tuned.
